An ex Marine and his family move into the infamous Amityville house and it is evident that the family has not had such an easy time of it and this move is meant to be their fresh start. The events of the movie are filmed by the son, who is a budding filmmaker and hopes to one day be a famous movie director.
Many people will be appalled by the inclusion of this movie on the list as you will read many negative reviews online about it. It is true that the acting could be better, and the same could be said about the script, but the main criticism levied against this movie is in comparison to the other Amityville movies. It is unfortunate that the makers attempted to link this movie to the Amityville franchise as the only real mention or connection to them is right at the beginning of the movie. If this had been marketed without that angle, I believe it would not have been so heavily criticised.
Although not as suspenseful as the other movies on this list, there is something about this movie that did creep me out and certain scenes that did even more than that. When you see how low-budget it is, you’ll appreciate how that can’t have been an easy feat. Admittedly, this is probably my least favourite movie on this list. I will say though that if you like this genre, and you’ve run out of movies to watch, waiting for the next Paranormal Activity you may find this movie is worth a watch.
